Born in Bhavnagar (Gujarat) in the year 1979, Sukhdev Rathod received a Post Diploma in Painting from M.S.University of Baroda in 2003, a Diploma in Painting, with pottery & ceramic as Optional subjects from M.S. University of Baroda-2001, and an Art Teacher Diploma of the Gujarat Government from Surandranagar in1995.

The idea about the work comes, when I started to think of illusions in our daily life. It is true that, when the Eye sees something, at that moment, the mind starts to relate or compare it with whatever it has in its memory. I’ve tried to paint both of these versions together. I paint various objects to narrate the ideas what I have. Every object that I’ve painted has its own individuality and its own story to tell, the story however, is interpreted differently by different people and hence they remain open to multiple readings.

He has had several shows in India and abroad. Prominent amongst these are : 2007,Team unteamed-II at Art Consult, New Delhi,2006, Flourishing art from Bhavnagar, at Sarjan Art Galley, Vadodara.2006, Group show at Museum art gallery at Mumbai, by Gallery Chemould 2007,Memories in Transit” sculpture tableaux project organized by Word Social Forum at Nairobi, Kenya 2006, Bronze sculpture workshop at Studio Sukrity, Jaipur, organized by The Guild art gallery.
