Born
in November 1980 Prajjwal has done his B.V.A from The Indian College of Arts
& Draughtsmanship, Rabindra University and M.V.A in Printmaking from
M.S.University, Baroda. “I
am interested in the images around me, the blurring of the boundaries
between different mediums and subjects and in trying to overcome the veil of
familiarity and self evidence that surrounds the experience of seeing, and
turning it into a problem for analysis through my works, a mystery to be
unraveled. A
compassion for my own environs such as popular prints of gods and goddess,
Indian freedom fighters, posters of Bollywood actors and many images from
the visual culture around me have heroic presence in my work. As we already
know that an artist might occasionally need to “exploit discredited
mediums and modes of productions simply in order to be seen”. My intention
is not as if I am trying to deal with it conceptually. In
printmaking I found a new approach, experimenting by amalgamating more
mediums in executing works and also introducing unconventional mediums that
gives certain freshness to the language and aesthetic. Popular art and culture is very important for the thinking process. And I am very much influenced by the aesthetics of pop art and especially of Andy Warhol. My interest in Street art is in view of the kaleidoscopic amount of new information. Graffiti plays a major role as also alternative organizations such as Fashion and Advertisement. I am slowly getting a little more technologically liberated, in terms of playfully experimenting with digital images in a conceptual sense. At times I want to be in touch with the sensibility of my time and then there are moment where I think I can do without. My works become like a laboratory for testing my own ideas with ‘dazzling orchestration of multiple, overlapping voices’.”
